Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR): an extraordinary tool for detecting buried utilities and structures.

At Orbis Terrarum’s Applied Geophysics Department, we are currently working on several construction projects where GPR is being used to locate underground pipelines with precision.

Among the most critical findings are old asbestos–cement pipes. Beyond the obvious technical challenges, these pipes pose potential health and environmental risks due to their age and possible asbestos content. Early detection is essential — it allows risks to be assessed in time and, if necessary, removal to be carried out by specialized companies.

By using advanced GPR technology, we can deliver highly detailed subsurface mapping, efficiently identifying these elements and preventing costly or hazardous surprises during construction.
