Steel Corrosion Assessment.

@OrbisTerrarum is currently analysing the impact of corrosion at a photovoltaic plant in Europe which, despite its recent installation, is already showing clear signs of deterioration in structural metallic elements.

The in-situ measurements as well as a profound study of geotechnical and hydrological conditions of the site will show the route-cause and explain this silent yet critical phenomenon.

What really matters is what to do with this information. Thanks to its Corrosion Assessment Department, @Orbis provide its clients with:

  • A corrosion risk map across the entire site.
  • Corrosion rate calculation — key to determining whether the expected service lifespan will be met.
  • Identification of critical zones requiring immediate intervention.
  • Maintenance strategies aligned with the predicted degradation timeline.
  • Technical support for both, corrective and preventive engineering decisions.

We have the technical capabilities and in-house laboratory to deliver this level of advisory combined service including geotechnics, geophysics, corrosion science, and applied engineering in a single, integrated solution.

With this data, our clients can anticipate, optimize resources, and ensure that the plant not only reaches its expected lifespan — but potentially exceeds it.

Below grade corrosion cannot be observed but is a real risk. But with the right technical knowledge, it can be anticipated, mitigated, and controlled.
